flea market findings

this morning at the long beach flea market i picked up a few goodies to get creative with. i don't want to give anything away (or disappoint in case these ideas get put on the back burner for a while), but as soon as i've made something, you will be the first to see. in the meantime, here is what i snagged!

blue and yellow handkerchiefs- although my favorite may be the one with the little black dots

pink handkerchiefs- so pretty! the one on the right actually looks like something i would draw

1880s ephemera (including a palette-shaped card!)- sitting on top of the beautiful wood-inlay table i found, which holds a secret compartment and a music box!

apologies and thanks

who knew that wanting to make things and sell them would require so much research, planning, and, for lack of better words, business-y stuff? i guess it doesn't matter how small or large i want this venture to be, the legalities must be strictly adhered to. and, as i have not been trained in the fields of business and finance, i feel like i've been struggling to learn a foreign language these last few weeks. if only i had a fairy godmother to magically make it all fall into place, so i could spend the entirety of my days creating.

luckily, i have the next best thing: my mom and eldest sister. their support, encouragement, and constant help are keeping me from tearing my hair out, and i appreciate it more than i can say. aside from my parents entirely financing me, both in business and personally, and my sister tirelessly doing research and giving me helpful resources and suggestions, they both put up with my complaining, lamenting, and whining. which alone is a reason for them to get a gold medal. or at least a cookie.

and while my mother and sister have been getting more than their fill of me, i have shamefully been neglecting my friends. so i want to give a (fairly pathetic) apology to my friends, who i am thinking of often and very much missing. i promise i will make it up to you all. and i will also apologize for apologizing to you on the internet.

so, in conclusion, a huge thank you to my friends for (hopefully) not hating me, and a gigantic thank you to my mother and sister, without whom i would be a basket-case.

Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles

the creative force responsible for Bergamot Station in Santa Monica is branching out into the San Pedro harbor. Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles, due to open in June 2012, will be a large-scale, permanent craft and artist market. once construction is complete, there will be stalls for over 500 vendors split between two gigantic warehouses. Mome Rath Garden is to take part, and i cannot wait! lots to do until then! a complete list of vendors on board so far can be seen here. hope you'll all come check it out once it's up and running!
